World AIDS Day Marks Ongoing Fight and Enduring Resilience

(AURN News) — Today is World AIDS Day, a moment to honor the lives lost, uplift people living with HIV and recommit to ending the epidemic. The day was first observed on Dec. 1, 1988, becoming the first global health awareness day.
It was created by World Health Organization public information officers James Bunn and Thomas Netter, who sought to confront HIV/AIDS with visibility, compassion and truth at a time when stigma was widespread and governments were slow to respond. Their idea grew into a worldwide call to action — one demanding education, testing, treatment access and the dismantling of discrimination.
More than three decades later, World AIDS Day remains a reminder that the fight is not over, but it is also a testament to resilience, activism and scientific breakthroughs.
