‘American people have spoken clearly’

(The Center Square) – Republican politicians say President-elect Donald Trump’s win in battleground Georgia is a clear message, and they encourage him to take swift action on issues like immigration.

Not only did Trump win in the state, but Republicans also maintained control of the state House of Representatives and Senate. In the 14 U.S. House of Representatives races, Republicans retained a 9-5 edge.

“The American people have spoken, clearly calling for a stronger economy, lower costs, secure borders, safe neighborhoods, and a return to peace through strength,” said U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk.

Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said he is excited to work with the state House and Senate to “keep Georgia the best state to live, work, and raise a family.”

“Congratulations to all of our Georgia state house and senate members for their hard-earned wins on Tuesday,” he said. “I look forward to working with the General Assembly to defend our conservative values and keep our state moving in the right direction!”

As media pundits and experts try to explain Trump’s widespread success in the election, politicians in the Peach State are pointing to the economy and immigration as having been top concerns for voters when they cast their ballots.

“Liberal pundits would rather call hardworking Americans racist and sexist than ask themselves a single hard question,” Kemp added on social media. “Democrats lost because they opened our border, drove up our costs, and told us to believe them instead of our lying wallets.”

Exit polling out of Georgia backs up Kemp’s claim, with 39% of respondents telling CNN on Election Day that the economy was the “most important issue” for them.

Hiring will play a critical part in the success of Trump’s administration, Georgia Republicans say.

“Right now, President Trump and his team are working to build an administration that will implement his America First agenda,” said U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has been a strong supporter of Trump’s since she was first elected in 2020. “Hiring in this next administration is important, but the ability to fire bureaucrats failing to do their job is equally important.”

Democratic politicians across the state have been notably quiet on Trump’s win. This comes as experts tell The Center Square that it will likely take awhile for everyone to digest the election results, especially as things continue to develop and Republicans are predicted to also win control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Flipping the U.S. Senate is already secured.

U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde said he believes the election was an indictment of how Trump, and his supporters, have been treated since first entering politics.

“Corrupt witch hunts. Sham impeachments. Endless lawfare. Two assassination attempts,” he said on social media. “President Trump fought through it all – and WON – to save our great country.”
