Americans Feel the Squeeze as Prices Jump Again

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The U.S. economy continues to get hammered by inflation, and new numbers from the federal government show that the war with Iran is taking a toll.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the latest Consumer Price Index, showing a 0.9% increase in March. This follows a 0.3% increase in February, with the index now at 3.3%.

Energy saw big increases, rising 10.9% in March. And gasoline increased a whopping 21.2%. Electricity rose 0.8%, and the fruits and vegetables index increased 1%.

The CPI is a key gauge of the economy’s health and stability. It shows how expensive everyday items are getting, such as food, rent and clothing.
