Anna Mae Robertson, Six Triple Eight Battalion Veteran, Dies at 101

Anna Mae Robertson, one of the last surviving members of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion — known as the Six Triple Eight — has died at 101, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The all-Black, all-women Army unit was sent to Europe during World War II to tackle a massive mail backlog, processing more than 17 million letters in just three months.

Despite facing and within the , the battalion boosted morale for troops across Europe.

Robertson, who later settled in Milwaukee, was honored in 2022 with the Congressional Gold Medal. A feature film, “The Six Triple Eight” by Tyler Perry, brought her story to the screen.
