Arkansas House, Senate Democrats say they are all in for Harris

(The Center Square) – The Arkansas House and Senate Democratic caucuses said they unanimously support Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential bid, just days after Arkansas delegates pledged to support Harris at next month’s Democratic National Convention.

The Democratic Party of Arkansas said Tuesday that the caucuses were among the first to announce their support for her.

“No one is better prepared than Kamala Harris to lead this country and fight for a Better Arkansas with us and our Democratic state legislators recognize that,” said Grant Tennille, chair of the Democratic Party of Arkansas and chair of Arkansas 2024 Delegation. “Arkansas Democrats represent communities as diverse as the Delta to the Ozarks, and they carry the voices of college towns and dirt farmers and the largest population center in Arkansas.”

State lawmakers said the Biden-Harris administration did not forget about Arkansas.

“Our small communities and cities did not have the funds to provide for safe drinking water, sewer infrastructure, and economic development dollars to bring in businesses during the Trump Administration,” said Sen. Fred Love, D–Little Rock.

Arkansas Republicans have been critical of Harris since she received the backing of President Joe Biden, who left the presidential race on Sunday. Harris did not attend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress.

“Kamala skipped the Israeli (Prime Minister’s) address and her radical left base is making clear which side they’re on in the fight against the evil forces of radical Islam,” Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a social media post.

U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton said on X that a “vote for Kamala Harris is a vote for an open border. “

“Joe Biden’s legacy will be crushing inflation, a border crisis, and chaos around the world,” Cotton said. “And Kamala Harris helped enact every disastrous policy.”

Harris is expected to have enough delegates to secure the presidential nomination at next month’s DNC.

A new poll shows that while Harris is more popular than Biden, she still trails former President Donald Trump in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan and Pennsylvania and ties him in Wisconsin.
