Baldwin, Hovde set for 7 p.m. Friday Senate debate in Madison

(The Center Square) – Friday will mark the first and only debate for the Wisconsin Senate seat between incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin and Republican challenger Eric Hovde.

The debate can be viewed at 7 p.m. across Wisconsin on radio and television stations along with live on WisconsinEye.org and C-SPAN.

The race is one of just three Senate races rated a toss-up by the Cook Political Report, along with races in Ohio and Michigan.

The debate will be in Madison and is sponsored by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association with panelists Aditi Debnath of PBS Wisconsin, Allyson Fergot of WKBT in La Crosse, Neil Johnson of Big Radio in Janesville, Shannon Sims of TMJ4 in Milwaukee and Jeff Thelen of WSAW in Wausau.

Baldwin has been campaigning based on improvements in state infrastructure through spending during the Biden Administration. She gave a short recorded speech to the Wisconsin Counties Association discussing those projects.

Hovde, meanwhile, appeared in person at the WCA convention and in front of the Milwaukee Press Club, discussing his business experience along with his Social Security proposal that became the subject of a Baldwin campaign ad.

Hovde also said he plans to push to reduce federal spending to pre-COVID levels as the federal deficit has run up from $16 trillion in 2012 to $35 trillion.
