Barrett seeking Green’s congressional seat

(The Center Square) – Tennessee state Rep. Jody Barrett said Monday he is running for Mark Green’s Seventh District congressional seat.

Green officially announced his resignation on July 4. He said in June he would step down after the vote on the “Big, Beautiful Bill.”

Barrett, R-Dickson, hinted at a congressional run on social media last week. He said he is running on an “America First” agenda and aligned himself with President Donald Trump.

“I’m the first legislator in Tennessee history to earn a perfect conservative voting record, and I promise to take that same Tennessee toughness to Washington to stand with President Trump and fight the liberal elites trying to destroy our way of life,” Barrett said. “I didn’t come from money or power, and I’ve never been impressed by either. I’ve always put Tennessee First, America First, and I always will.”

Republican candidates began lining up in June to replace Green. Matt Van Epps, who served as commissioner of the Tennessee Department of General Services, Tennessee state Rep. Jay Reedy, Montgomery County Commissioner Jason Knight and combat veteran Jon Thorpe have announced their intentions.
