Bench Pressed: Trump’s Justice Department Sues Every Federal Judge in Maryland

The Trump Justice Department has sued all 15 federal judges in over a court order pausing for 48 hours if someone files a habeas petition — essentially asking not to be detained and deported before getting their day in court.

The standing order, issued in May by Chief Judge George L. Russell III, was intended to stop the chaos created by Trump’s blitz of mass deportations — many occurring without notice and even after business hours.

But now, the Justice Department is calling it unlawful and anti-democratic, accusing the judges of blanket overreach.

The move is unprecedented: The Justice Department typically defends judges, not sues them.

The administration is turning the courts into enemies, especially as rulings from Maryland have continued to halt Trump’s executive orders on everything from mass firings of federal workers to cutting health care.

Many are calling this a full-on constitutional crisis.
