Biden says he’ll respect judicial process after son’s conviction

(The Center Square) – President Joe Biden said Tuesday that he supports Hunter Biden after a jury convicted him of three felonies in Delaware.

“As I said last week, I am the President, but I am also a Dad,” Biden said. “Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery.”

“As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal,” the president added. “Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that.”

Some Republicans took a different view. U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, posted her comments on X.

“Timing is everything,” she wrote. “This is the veil of fairness in the Justice System under @POTUS.”

U.S. Rep. James Comer, R-Kentucky, said more investigations are needed.

“Hunter Biden’s sweetheart plea deal was smoked out after scrutiny by a federal judge. Today’s verdict is a step toward accountability but until the Department of Justice investigates everyone involved in the Bidens’ corrupt influence peddling schemes that generated over $18 million in foreign payments to the Biden family, it will be clear department officials continue to cover for the Big Guy, Joe Biden.”

Special counsel David Weiss indicted Hunter Biden in September 2023 in federal court in Delaware on three counts tied to the possession of a gun while using drugs. Two of the counts involve allegations that he allegedly lied on a form attesting that he was not using illegal drugs when he bought a .38 Special Colt Cobra revolver in October 2018. The third count alleges that he possessed a firearm while using illicit drugs.

A jury found Hunter Biden guilty on all three federal felonies on Tuesday.

Hunter Biden faces up to 10 years in prison on the first two counts and five years on the third count.
