Blanche Faces Senate Scrutiny Over DOJ Leadership

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche faces the Senate Judiciary Committee today as he seeks confirmation as President Donald Trump’s permanent attorney general, with little room for Republican defections.

Following the sudden death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Republicans cannot afford to lose a single vote on the committee.

Blanche, Trump’s former personal defense lawyer, faces scrutiny over the Justice Department’s handling of the Epstein files, prosecutions involving Trump critics including James Comey and Letitia James, and a nearly $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” connected to Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS.

In his opening statement, Blanche said, “We are restoring trust in the Department of Justice,” but Democrats argue he is still acting as Trump’s personal attorney rather than the nation’s top law enforcement officer.

The question hanging over the hearing is whether the Justice Department is serving the country or one man.
