(The Center Square) —The Bossier City Council addressed infrastructure improvements, budget amendments and city appointments at their meeting this week.
The council reviewed bids on Tuesday for citywide street improvements under the 2024 budget. Two contractors, Benton & Brown and Earnest Contracting, submitted competitive bids. Earnest Contracting emerged as the lower bidder with $1,650,393.25. Additional funds from the 2025 budget will supplement the remaining costs.
The council also approved amendments to the 2025 general fund budget. One measure allocated $35,000 to the Shreveport-Bossier Military Affairs Council for the 2025 Barksdale Air Show. Another ordinance appropriated funds to restore a water main blowout along Airline Drive, citing an emergency.
In a move to expand city boundaries, the council approved the annexation of 6.459 acres near Barksdale Boulevard, south of Curtis Elementary School. Another measure clarified that adjustments to the water and sewer fund budget would not impact customer rates, addressing public concerns.
The council reappointed Art Schuldt to the Metropolitan Planning Commission board, with his term extending to 2031. A resolution also authorized filling vacancies in the Bossier City Marshal’s office due to recent resignations.
An ordinance was introduced to renew a cooperative endeavor agreement with the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs. This agreement ensures continued support for veterans in the region and was expedited due to the expiration of the previous contract.
The next council meeting will address additional budget and city project updates as Bossier City continues to prioritize infrastructure, public safety, and community services.
