Bossier City Council approves construction costs, redresses clerk salaries

(The Center Square) — The Bossier City Council financed and amended construction projects and agreed to new salaries and city jobs during their meeting this week.

The most expensive ordinance approves the increase in project cost of $283,631 for the Barksdale South 24-inch water main and consolidation project. It also adds seven days to the project length.

Surplus funding from the water sector programs will be required to supplement the water capital and contingency fund.

Another one of the construction-related ordinances appropriates an additional $52,379 from the sewer capital and contingency fund to replace the Northeast Wastewater Treatment Plant generator.

The last ordinance of this category passed on Tuesday declares the completion of the citizens bank drive pump station project, including an approval of $48,161 and 96 days be added to the documentation of the project total. This ordinance also amends a previous one to leave a surplus of funding to supplement the extra costs.

Two ordinances were passed related to city employees.

One creates and hires a new position: Chief of administration of the Bossier City Fire Department.

The other ordinance amends the 2025 General Fund City Council Operating Budget to redress the salary of the current city clerk in order to match their salary with other city clerk’s across the state. This would entail a $12,000 salary increase in 2025.

There were also two ordinances adopted related to budget shifts and surpluses. The first transfers $3,960 from the Diversion Special Revenue Fund to the General Fund in order to establish the administration of the City Prosecutor’s Pretrial Diversion Program.

The other donates the fire safety trailer surplus from the Bossier City Fire Department to the East 80 Fire Department to fill a need. Most of this surplus is no longer necessary for the department.
