(The Center Square) — The Bossier City Council met this week to approve several ordinances and resolutions related to construction costs and hiring employees to fill city jobs.
The first ordinance approved Tuesday in construction declared that an emergency exists in Bossier which affected property, public health and safety.
This is due to the need to replace an 8-inch gravity sewer main at 100 Willow Lake Boulevard and to re-establish service connection on the gravity sewer main at 1203 Violet Street. This will cost the Sewer Capital and Contingency Fund $33,680, but the council passed it unanimously.
The other construction ordinances were just introduced, meaning they’d have to be passed again at the next meeting. This includes an ordinance appropriating an additional $52,379 from the sewer capital and contingency fund to replace the Northeast Wastewater Treatment Plant generator.
Another would approve the increase in project cost of $283,631.61 for the Barksdale South 24 inch water main and consolidation project. It would also add seven days to the project length.
Surplus funding from the water sector program’s would be required to supplement the water capital and contingency fund.
Lastly, an ordinance was introduced to declare the completion of the citizens bank drive pump station project, including approving $48,161 and 96 days be added to the project total. This ordinance also amends a previous one to leave a surplus of funding to supplement the extra costs.
Several resolutions were adopted authorizing new hires.
The positions were a part time office manager/receptionist in the City Clerk’s Office, a part time kennel worker position in the Animal Control Division, a personnel specialist in the Human Resources Department, and an accounts clerk in the Customer Service Department.
There were also two ordinances introduced related to employees. One would create and ultimately hire the position of chief of administration of the Bossier City Fire Department.
The other amends the 2025 general fund city council operating budget to redress the salary of the current city clerk in order to match their salary with other city clerk’s across the state. This would entail a $12,000 salary increase in 2025.
