Bread, eggs, milk prices go down

(The Center Square) – Bread, eggs and milk prices are down from a month ago in the capital city of North Carolina.

Average prices on household staples have neither surged or dropped significantly amid the worries with economic influences such as tariffs or wars in the Middle East and along the border of Russia.

A loaf of fresh white bread is $3.62 on average in Raleigh; a regular dozen eggs are $4.60; and regular milk for a gallon is $3.26. From a month ago, the averages are 11 cents less for bread, and nine cents less each for eggs and milk.

Raleigh’s prices on March 3 were $3.68 for a loaf of bread, $4.17 for a dozen eggs and $3.44 for a gallon of milk. A pound of beef round was $8.04, and that’s down more than half a dollar.

The figures are from Numbeo, a crowd-sourced database with costs of living and other factors for cities and countries globally.

Consumer prices have been a focus of the Trump administration. There have been tariff battles and new trade agreements, all part of the second-term Republican’s desire to fulfill campaign promises on the economy.

For context, President Donald Trump has been back in office for 197 days; deals and negotiations remain fluid, all having not settled into place.

The latest rate of inflation released in July for June is 2.7%, a drop from 3% in January and from 3% in the same month a year ago. The release of July’s percentage is scheduled Tuesday of next week.

Here’s a look at some measures of consumer prices for Raleigh and the nation:

• Milk (regular, 1 gallon): $3.26, on a range of $1.80 to $5. The national average is $4.02, on a range of $2.01 to $7.84.

• Eggs (regular, dozen): $4.60, on a range of $2.29 to $6.50. The national average is $4.36, on a range of $1.99 to $7.83.
