British sports betting company putting American headquarters in Denver

(The Center Square) – A British online sports betting company recently announced it picked Denver, Colorado, as the site for its American headquarters after making a deal to get $14 million in state tax credits.

The company bet365 opened its American headquarters at One Platte, or 1701 Platte Street, and plans to hire about 1,000 employees.

“We are thrilled to welcome bet365 and nearly 1,000 jobs to Colorado and congratulate them on the grand opening of their new U.S. headquarters here. bet365 will create nearly 1,000 new good-paying jobs and as many as 300 this year that will help Coloradans earn a good living and support their families,” Governor Jared Polis said in a statement. “We are confident they will quickly find that our great state is the best place to live, work, and do business.”

Bet365 renovated a 120,000-square-foot office space in Denver that it will use to boost brand awareness in the United States.

“Unveiling our US headquarters in beautiful downtown Denver represents a watershed moment in bet365’s North American journey,” a bet365 spokesman said. “The Mile High City and its thriving business community is the ideal location to launch the next chapter in our company’s future, and we’re excited to create an industry-leading, innovative workplace in our new home.”

Within the first year, bet365 plans to hire over 300 new employees, a release said. These positions will include customer service, trading, software development and technology, marketing, legal, finance, facilities, human resources, and recruitment.

“We are confident that Colorado’s nation-leading quality of life and culture of innovation will make our state a great home for bet365, and believe this expansion is a win-win, including Colorado workers,” OEDIT Executive Director Eve Lieberman said in the release. “bet365 is committed to creating good-paying jobs and a culture of excellence for their employees.”

The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved a maximum of $14,055,942 of the performance-based Job Growth Incentive Tax Credit for bet365 over eight years. To receive those credits, bet365 must meet certain obligations related to job creation and salary requirements.

“We’re thrilled to welcome bet365 and their U.S. headquarters to Downtown Denver, marking a significant milestone in our region’s economic growth. This project wouldn’t have been possible without the support and collaboration of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the Colorado Economic Development Commission, the City and County of Denver, and Mayor Mike Johnston’s Office; we thank them for their dedication in helping bring this project to life,” President of the Metro Denver EDC, Raymond H. Gonzales said. “With the aid of OEDIT’s incentives investment, this project will not only create up to 1,000 high-quality jobs but also solidify Denver’s reputation as a hub for innovation and business. We look forward to the lasting impact this partnership will have on our community, driving both economic opportunity and vibrancy for Denver’s downtown for years to come.”

The company has over 7,000 employees globally, including about 50 at its Denver office.
