(The Center Square) – Two familiar faces have been chosen by their peers to lead the Caddo-Bossier Parishes Port Commission this year.
Joshua Williams and Stephen Callaway were elected Jan. 12 to serve second terms as president and vice president, respectively. Brian Crawford was selected to serve as secretary-treasurer.
Nine appointed commissioners serve on the board, selected by Caddo and Bossier parishes, the city of Shreveport and Bossier City. The commission approves leases and major projects and oversees the organization’s finances and policies.
The port and industrial park is in northwest Louisiana, about 15 miles south of downtown Shreveport. It sits at the head of navigation on the Red River Waterway and is the furthest inland point where commercial barge traffic can operate, according to the commission.
The port’s location is advantageous for barges moving bulk goods down the Red River to the Mississippi River, allowing cargo to reach domestic markets or international ports via the Gulf.
It’s also described as a multi-modal transportation hub, offering rail connections, major highways and pipeline infrastructure. The port houses industrial manufacturing operations and processing operations.
