Candidate Connection survey: Wheeler, Yates

North Carolina is holding elections, including for state executive offices, on Nov. 7 this year and Nov. 5 next year.

A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Below is a selection of responses from the candidates who filled out the survey as of Tuesday. To read each candidate’s full responses, click his or her name at the bottom of the article.

David Wheeler, a Democrat, is running for North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance, and the general election is on Nov. 5, 2024. Here’s how Wheeler responded to the question: What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

“I don’t understand why there is no one fighting to keep insurance rates low or fighting for folks that have problems obtaining the benefits owed to them by insurance companies. I am passionate about leveling the playing field for all North Carolinians and making the Dept of Insurance more focused on the people and less so on helping insurance companies make millions of dollars.”
