(The Center Square) – President Donald Trump continued his flurry of endorsements late Monday afternoon with nods to congressional candidates in Georgia and Tennessee.
In Georgia, the president encouraged voters to support John Cowan’s bid in the 11th Congressional District. In Tennessee, state Sen. Brent Taylor got the affirmation in a newly redrawn 9th Congressional District.
Cowan is trying to succeed Republican Barry Loudermilk. His resignation is effective at the end of his term.
The 11th District is in the northwestern part of the state. It includes Bartow, Gordon and Pickens counties, as well as parts of Cobb and Cherokee counties.
“A proven leader, John has served his community well as a highly respected neurosurgeon, small business owner, and civic leader, prior to running for Congress,” Trump wrote on social media.
Cowan unsuccessfully ran for the 14th District Congressional post in 2020. He lost the Republican nomination to former U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
State lawmakers redrew Tennessee’s congressional districts in May. The new map split the 9th Congressional District, which contained much of Shelby County, into three districts.
It is the only Tennessee district represented by a Democrat, Steve Cohen, who is not seeking reelection. The 9th District now covers the southeastern part of Shelby County.
“Brent is strongly supported by the most highly respected MAGA Warriors in Tennessee, including both of your tremendous U.S. senators, my friends, Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty,” Trump wrote on social media. “A successful businessman, and very popular state senator, Brent has dedicated his life to serving his community.”
Taylor is facing businesswoman Charlotte Bergmann, Army veteran Jeremy Thompson and state Rep. Todd Warner of Chapel Hill in the Aug. 6 Republican primary.
Trump has not endorsed in the Republican primary for Tennessee governor. Blackburn, U.S. Rep. John Rose and state Rep. Monty Fritts are running.
