Carl Carlton, Funk Icon, Dies at 72

According to People.com, funk and R&B singer Carl Carlton has died at the age of 72. His family confirmed his passing on Sunday, Dec. 14. Born Carlton Hudgens in Detroit in 1953, he began performing as a teenager before gaining national attention in the early 1970s. Carlton first reached the Billboard charts with “I Can Feel It,” then scored a major hit in 1974 with his cover of “Everlasting Love,” which became a top-10 single on the Billboard Hot 100. He is best known for his 1981 funk classic “She’s a Bad Mama Jama,” a Grammy-nominated song that became a staple of Black popular culture and was later featured in films and television shows. Carlton’s career spanned decades, leaving a legacy in soul, funk, and R&B music.
