WASHINGTON (AURN News) — The Congressional Black Caucus is calling on corporate America to publicly defend Black voting rights and what lawmakers describe as an assault on Black political power following the Supreme Court’s 2026 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais.
In a six-page letter, CBC Chair Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y., and dozens of lawmakers warned corporations that remaining silent would amount to complicity. The caucus says Republican-led states are moving quickly to redraw congressional maps and weaken Black representation after the court effectively dismantled Section 2 protections of the Voting Rights Act.
The letter specifically calls on companies to publicly condemn efforts to dilute Black voting strength, disclose political spending tied to discriminatory redistricting efforts and participate in a national convening with civil rights groups focused on defending voting rights.
The CBC also draws a direct line between voting rights and corporate profits, arguing Black consumers and workers help drive the American economy.
The caucus gave corporations until June 9 to respond.
