Census: Arizona remains a top destination for moving Americans

(The Center Square)— New estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau confirms Arizona’s standing as a top destination for Americans moving.

The state ranked fifth for net domestic migration with over 62,500 residents gained last year, according to the Census data.

Those new residents had an income on average 16.9% more than the ones who left the state, according to the Common Sense Institute Arizona analysis.

“Arizona continues to demonstrate its competitive edge as a destination for movers, attracting high-income earners and fostering faster economic growth,” Senior Economist and Research Analyst Zachary Milne said in a statement. “The data show us a link between state policies, economic opportunity, and migration patterns—positioning Arizona on a sustained growth trajectory.”

According to the report, 20% of those people overall came from California, which has lost hundreds of thousands of residents in recent years. When looking at net migration, that figure is close to half from the Golden State.

A common trait among the top states for those moving to were low or none income tax, such as Florida and Texas. The two states ranked first and second for net domestic migration, respectively, according to the report. North Carolina ranked third and fourth, respectively.

Arizona is considered one of the fastest growing states in the country, as businesses and people continue to set up shop.
