Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak Wednesday afternoon at the National Association of Black Journalists Convention in Chicago.

The NABJ said Trump will engage in a Q&A with political journalists before an audience of registered convention attendees that will concentrate on the most pressing issues facing the Black community.

NABJ President Ken Lemon said, “We look forward to our attendees hearing from former President Trump on the critical issues our members and their audiences care about most.”

Chicago Republican Party Chairman and 38th Ward Committeeman Chuck Hernandez said Trump’s popularity is skyrocketing in the Black community.

“You know, it’s just amazing to see him travel the country with the energy that he has and reaching out to every group in America,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez expects the former president’s visit to energize Republicans in the city.

“We are making inroads in every demographic group in Chicago. We want to reach every neighborhood,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez said he would like the former president to remind the audience that the economy was flourishing when Trump was in office.

“We had a strong economy. We had low inflation. Every demographic group in America was making more money, you know,” he said. “We were at peace. He was ending wars. And even to that specific group, right, he led the permanent funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and that had never happened before,” Hernandez said.

Fellow presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris was also invited to participate. The NABJ says Harris’ confirmation is pending.
