Colorado House minority leader joins 4th Congressional District race

(The Center Square) – Colorado House Minority Leader Mike Lynch has joined the race for the state’s 4th Congressional District, joining a crowded field of Republicans, including U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert.

Lynch, who represents House District 65 and was the Republican leader in the House for the 2023 legislative session, stressed his military background and experience as a small business owner in a statement Wednesday announcing his candidacy.

“Rural Coloradans and our state’s hardworking families, the true backbone of our great state, deserve a strong voice in Washington who truly comprehends the exceptionalism of Colorado and embraces our unwavering conservative values,” Lynch said. “Coloradans should have a representative who has been tested and persevered, who understands our western heritage, and is committed to tackling the unique challenges we face during these trying times in the United States.”

U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, who currently represents the 4th District, announced his retirement in November, citing his disappointment with the Republican Party. U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, who represents Colorado’s 3rd District, said last week she’s running in the 4th District rather than reelection to the 3rd District.

Lynch cited national security, along with the fentanyl crisis and the U.S. border, as key priorities of his campaign.

“The world is a very dangerous place, perhaps the most dangerous for Democracy in two generations,” the Wellington Republican said. “Congress must have elected men and women serving who understand the high price America pays for our freedom.”

The Republican primary race also includes former state lawmaker Jerry Sonnenberg and state Rep. Richard Holtorf, R-Akron, among others.
