Compliance plan, fine levied on radio station by FCC

(The Center Square) – Implementation of a compliance plan and a fine are being required of a North Carolina radio station by the Federal Communications Commission.

Ownership of WBPL, known also as Wilmington Catholic Radio on 93.1 FM, will pay a $2,000 fine through terms of a consent decree. Published reports say Ave Maria Radio Association bought the station and gave programming control to Archangel Gabriel Radio Association.

Not having FCC approval was a violation.

The station’s website says Wilmington Catholic Radio is an affiliate of Relevant Radio and of EWTN Radio, a pair of nonprofit radio networks. The station streams worldwide on its website 24 hours a day; the transmitter signal has range of about 10 miles.
