(The Center Square) – Culinary workers in Las Vegas have ended their strike after agreeing to a new collective bargaining agreement.
Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 agreed to a new five-year contract after the union members went on strike for 69 days.
“Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and the Culinary and Bartenders Unions are pleased to be moving past their contract negotiations as each looks forward to fostering a positive and collaborative working relationship for the benefit of all team members at the property,” the union workers said in a statement.
“Parties are committed to the resolution of our dispute and to maintaining a union standard at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas that provides for its team members’ families and fosters a better community for all,” the workers added.
The union did not release the details of the contract. Its contract with Virgin Hotels had expired in 2023.
On Nov. 21, 2024, one week into the strike, 57 union members were arrested during what the union called “an act of peaceful civil disobedience.” Some of these members blocked traffic during it.
During the strike, the union members told people not to stay at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
This was the first strike for the union in 23 years.
Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 are affiliates of UNITE HERE, representing 60,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno. Culinary Workers Union is the state’s largest union.
Union members work as guest room attendants, cocktail and food servers, porters, bellmen, cooks, bartenders, laundry and kitchen workers.
