D.C. Mayor Extends Emergency Center in Response to Trump’s Law Enforcement Push

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser issued an order Tuesday to extend the work of the Safe and Beautiful Emergency Operations Center, created in response to President Donald Trump’s federal law enforcement surge, according to The Associated Press.

Bowser said the center will coordinate with agencies including the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Park Police and Secret Service, while pressing federal officers to follow standard policing practices such as wearing visible IDs.

Trump praised the initiative, calling it a “template” after citing sharp drops in crime such as carjackings. Bowser acknowledged crime reductions but warned that masked and unidentified agents had damaged community trust.

The order gave no end date, underscoring ongoing tensions over federal power in the District.
