Dangerous blaze? New Mexico recalls marijuana due to pesticide use

(The Center Square) – The New Mexico Cannabis Control Division recently issued a consumer health and safety advisory after seeing that cannabis flower purchased in the state tested positive for a prohibited pesticide. Some of the weed is likely to have been already smoked as some products were delivered as long ago as March.

WH Agriculture, LLC DBA Maggie’s Farm, distributed the contaminated products to pot shops between March 6, 2024, and August 1, 2024.

All of these shops have been ordered by the state to remove these products from the market.

“The CCD is committed to protecting public health and safety by ensuring that all cannabis products comply with state regulations,” a press release from the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department said. “This advisory includes cannabis products that tested positive for pyrethrins. Inhaling pyrethrins can irritate the nose and throat and cause difficulty breathing, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Those who bought these products are urged to destroy them or to bring them to the retailer where they bought them for proper disposal.

This health recall does not involve any health-related complaints reported to the CCD, the release said.

Those with health-related complaints should call the New Mexico Poison Control Hotline at 800-222-1222 or contact their healthcare provider.
