Delaware gas prices on the rise heading into summer

(The Center Square) – Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer traveling season; those in Delaware will see an increase at the gas pumps compared to previous months.

The average price for regular unleaded gasoline in the state is currently around $3.49 per gallon, up from $3.46 a week ago and $3.43 a month ago, according to the American Automobile Association.

The rise in prices can be attributed to increased demand as more Americans plan road trips for the holiday weekend.

In comparison, the national average for regular unleaded gasoline is approximately $3.59 per gallon, reflecting a similar upward trend. Diesel fuel in Delaware currently averages $3.77 per gallon, slightly lower than a month ago when it was $3.86.

Despite these increases, Delaware’s gas prices are favorable compared to the previous year when they were significantly higher. Last year, around this time, regular unleaded gasoline was priced at $4.60 per gallon, and diesel was at $5.95.

AAA forecasts that over 34 million Americans will take to the roads this Memorial Day weekend, an increase from last year. This rise in travel is likely to continue putting upward pressure on gas prices as the summer progresses. While gas prices are higher, they remain more affordable than last year’s peak.
