Democratic Senators Call For Ceasefire

A group of 14 Democratic senators, including Senators Edward Markey, Mark Warner and Chris Murphy, are urging a short-term stop of hostilities in Gaza. They expressed concerns over the failure to protect noncombatant civilians and the potential escalation of the conflict.

These senators aligned with President Biden’s call for a pause in the fighting, emphasizing the need to prevent harm to civilians and Palestinian aid workers and get humanitarian aid delivered. The group also includes Senator Dick Durbin, Jeff Merkley, Tammy Duckworth and others.

President Biden has been actively involved, advocating for a ceasefire and engaging with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

While the White House considers a humanitarian pause for aid, it pushed back against a full ceasefire. Durbin also highlighted the importance of the immediate release of hostages and calls for dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians.
