(The Center Square) – The city of Denver is considering purchasing two buildings for $4 million from the Denver Community Church to house its arriving migrants.

“This space for newcomer families is a key piece of Denver’s efforts to keep families safely off the streets,” city staff stated in documents.

The purchase and sale agreement were reviewed by the city’s Finance & Governance Committee earlier this week. The final sale would need to be approved by the City Council.

As of May 20, the city of Denver has taken in 41,807 migrants from the southern border at a cost of more than $70 million, according to a city media release. The city is sheltering 622 people through various housing shelters.
