DOJ Seeks to Drop Remaining Charges in Breonna Taylor Case

(AURN News) — The Justice Department has asked a federal judge to drop the remaining criminal charges against two Louisville police officers tied to the warrant that led to the 2020 killing of Breonna Taylor, according to The New York Times.

The department argued dismissal was “in the interest of justice,” while critics called the move indefensible.

Taylor, a 26-year-old Black emergency medical worker, was killed when police executed a botched no-knock raid. No drugs were found.

The officers, Kyle Meany and Joshua Jaynes, were accused of falsifying information used to secure the warrant.

A judge had already dismissed the most serious charges last year, citing insufficient proof that their actions directly caused her death.

The case, central to nationwide protests over policing and racial injustice, remains a flashpoint as legal accountability continues to unravel.
