DOJ Sends Election Monitors Amid Transparency Debate

Department of Justice seal displayed on a wall as the agency’s Civil Rights Division faces mass resignations under Trump’s second term

(AURN News) — I’m Ebony McMorris. The Justice Department says it’s sending election monitors to six counties — five in California and one in New Jersey — to ensure what officials call transparency and ballot security. But many say the move has to do with fear and not fairness. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Civil Rights Chief Hart Dillon insist the monitors will safeguard the process.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom says it’s intimidation, accusing what he calls Donald Trump’s “puppet” DOJ of trying to scare voters in Democratic-led states. The monitors will oversee counties with large Latino populations, including Los Angeles, Fresno and Kern. It’s the same DOJ that has sued multiple blue states for voter data while ignoring documented voter suppression elsewhere. So, is this safeguarding or policing democracy?
