Educators, Faith Leaders Challenge Trump on Immigration Raids Near Schools

National teachers unions and faith leaders have joined forces to challenge President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, arguing that arrests near schools and churches traumatize children and disrupt education, according to the Associated Press.

The National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, which represent millions of educators, filed a lawsuit contending the administration violated longstanding protections for sensitive locations.

The complaint cites incidents in which armed agents detained parents in school parking lots and near churches, forcing campuses into lockdowns and leaving students fearful.

Educators report declining attendance, increased anxiety and parents avoiding school services.

The lawsuit, filed in Oregon, claims the rollback of protections violates federal law and infringes on religious freedom.
