Election 2024: Greene seeking third term in Georgia’s 14th

(The Center Square) – In Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is poised to win her third term.

Challenged by Democrat Shawn Harris, Greene has the biggest fundraising edge of any congressional candidate in the state. The district is heavily Republican, and she’s got a significant leg up in name recognition.

Harris is running as a “leader who listens.” Greene says she is working to “save America, stop communism.”

Greene raised $6.3 million for her reelection campaign up through June 30. Harris brought in just $522,000, which is only 8% of Greene’s funds, according to campaign finance reports.

Since being elected in 2020, Greene has become an “America First” firebrand for the Republican party and former President Donald Trump. She is running on defunding the FBI, impeaching President Joe Biden, and investigating Dr. Anthony Fauci.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene will not back down,” her campaign website says. “There has never been a time more appropriate for Americans to stand up for this country.”

Harris has called Greene the “most toxic member of Congress,” saying he is running for “team Georgia” not team red or blue.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene neglected the people of northwest Georgia,” he wrote in a post to social media. “She’s noticeably absent and uninvolved here. We deserve better.”

His priorities include expanding access to health care, investing in infrastructure, and building up agriculture.

In 2022, Greene won the district with nearly 66% of the vote. Redistricting has been implemented, and The Hill is among those forecasting her to win.

Republicans are expected to hold the majority of the state’s U.S. House representatives, with incumbents leading fundraising in 13 out of the 14 districts. There are nine Republicans and five Democrats in the House from Georgia.
