(The Center Square) – Ohio’s 2024 election was nearly perfect, according to Secretary of State Frank LaRose.
A post-election audit showed a 99.99% accuracy rate, and all 88 counties reported a 100% accuracy rate specifically for the presidential election.
“Ohioans deserve to know that their elections are transparent, accessible, and accountable,” LaRose said. “As 2024 comes to a close, I am proud to announce yet another 99.9% audit accuracy rate and am grateful for the hard work and dedication of Ohio’s bipartisan election officials who make it happen.”
The post-election audit is a comprehensive review of all results to verify the election was accurate.
Before the election, each county board of elections is required to perform a variety of tests – logic and accuracy testing – on all voting equipment. After the election, a bipartisan team of Republicans and Democrats from the boards compare hard-copy, paper ballots with tabulated results.
According to LaRose, unlike other states, Ohio requires an audit after every election.
All 88 Ohio counties reported a 100% accuracy rate for the November election.
Last month, the Ohio General Assembly passed legislation that made post-election audits law in the state. Before that, it was required based on a directive from LaRose.
“During my administration, I have required post-election audits after every election, and I am glad to see the General Assembly codify what is clearly a best practice that boosts voter confidence,” LaRose said.
Last month, LaRose released an analysis of the November election that showed 23 local races that triggered an automatic recount. Several of those races ended in a tie or were decided by three or fewer votes.
“With important local races on the horizon in 2025, it is important to remember that every vote counts,” LaRose said. “Easy to vote and hard to cheat; that is our continued promise to every Ohioan.”
