Faith-based voter effort to court Hispanic Nevadans

(The Center Square) – A faith-based event encouraging Hispanics to get out and vote is coming to Las Vegas.

Scheduled for Sept. 21, the event was organized by Job Creators Network and its Hispanic Vote Coalition.

In a press release, Mary Thomas, executive director of the Hispanic Vote Coalition, said that Hispanics can no longer sit on the sidelines “while our values and the very foundation of our economic freedoms are under attack” in America.

“High taxes, continued high inflation, and a sinking economy are hurting Hispanics in America,” said Thomas. “We are engaged in a spiritual battle, as well as a battle to save the American Dream, and the Hispanic community must seize their constitutional duty as citizens, Christians, and hardworking Americans to vote in this election.”

Members of the Hispanic Vote Coalition include the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, the Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, former Representative Tim Huelskamp, R-Kansas, and media strategist Rigel Strategies.

More than 30% of Nevada’s population identified as Hispanic in 2022. That was up from 18.7% in 2020. Both figures are from Census data.

“Today more than ever, Hispanics have the opportunity to change the course of the history of this country that has been a blessing, refuge and opportunity for us and our generations,” said Pastor Camilo Perez, Senior Pastor at Strong Tower Christian Center in a press release. “The time has come to raise our voice in the right way, without violence and without breaking the law, but rather voting in favor of our family and Biblical principles and values that characterize us.”

Organizers have also created the website, VotamosValores.com, for more information. It is available in Spanish and English. Votamos Volares is Spanish for We Vote For Values.
