(The Center Square) – Florida is one of 10 states without extra annual registration fees for electric or hybrid vehicles, a new report says.
Only four of the 10 also do not offer a tax credit at purchase. Alaska, Arizona and Nevada are the others, says the analysis released Tuesday by The Tax Foundation.
Registration fees and fuel taxes in many states help provide funding for the roads and infrastructure sections of state budgets. In Florida, fuel taxes are part of the equation along with tolls from the Florida Turnpike, vehicle fees for all, the general fund and federal funds.
The report from the international nonprofit research organization publishing studies on American tax policies analyzed all 50 states to see how contributions were coming in the push for alternative energy vehicles. North Carolina and Ohio are two of the more costly states.
In addition to Florida, no electric or hybrid vehicle registration fees are assessed in Alaska, Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico or New York. Of those, Florida and Nevada are the only Republican trifecta state governments; a Democratic trifecta is in place for all of the rest sans Alaska and Arizona.
