From immigration fraud, to sexually abusing a middle school boy, to deportation

(The Center Square) – Fraudulent filing with the U.S. government by her mother 20 years ago, convictions in Virginia tied to sexual abuse of a middle school boy in December 2022 and a probation violation in North Carolina may cause the deportation of a native Romanian woman.

Rebeca Fratila-Ilies, an immigrant to America as a child awarded a green card in 2006, is legally eligible to be deported, says U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Convicted of two counts of carnal knowledge of a child and statutory rape, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Staunton, Va., released early, and arrested March 12, 2025, by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office on a probation violation.

“ICE lodged an immigration detainer against Fratila-Ilies with Guilford County April 17, asking them not to release this child predator back into the community,” said ICE Director Todd Lyons. “Fratila-Ilies is a lawful permanent resident, but she’s been convicted of sex crimes against a child, which means she’s amenable to removal. She’s currently in removal proceedings and ICE is standing by to deport her upon a Department of Justice immigration judge’s order.”

Her mother’s asylum case was deemed fraudulent and an immigration judge ordered her removed in absentia in 2017. The decision was appealed and relief from removal was granted in 2022 prior to the charges filed that led to Fratila-Ilies’ conviction.
