GE Appliances announces $3 billion investment in U.S. production

(The Center Square) – GE Appliances announced a $3 billion investment over the next five years to increase production at facilities across the country.

The appliance manufacturer, whose parent company is China-based Haier, will begin with increased production at the company’s plants in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee. The five year plan anticipates adding an additional 1,000 new jobs.

“No other appliance company over the last decade has invested more in U.S. manufacturing than we have, and our $3 billion, five-year plan shows that our commitment to U.S. manufacturing will continue into the future,” said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances.

GE said the investment will help the company produce electric water heaters, gas range stoves, top-freezer refrigerators and washing machines in plants across the southern United States.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear celebrated the announcement at GE’s headquarters in Louisville on Wednesday. He said the company’s investment is not a partisan issue.

“There ain’t nothing Democrat or Republican about a good job,” Beshear said. “We’re not moving right or left, we’re moving forward together, and that helps every Kentuckian in every part of this state.”

In June, GE announced it would invest $490 million and 800 new jobs at its headquarters in Louisville.

“When it comes to advanced manufacturing, no one does it better than we do in Kentucky,” Beshear said.

The domestic investment from GE follows months of President Donald Trump touting company investments into the United States under his trade deal policies. The White House website maintains a running list of more than eight trillion dollars in foreign and private investments nicknamed “The Trump Effect.”

The White House list touts deals like a $600 billion investment from Apple, $500 billion from Nvidia and $1.3 billion from yogurt company Chobani. Projects under the companies include AI development and increased manufacturing capabilities across the country.

GE contributed $30 billion to the U.S. Gross Domestic Product and added 113,000 jobs, according to a 2024 economic report.
