(The Center Square) – Gov. Brian Kemp remembered Georgia state Rep. Mandi Ballinger as a leader who was respected across the political aisle.
Ballinger, R-Canton, died after a lengthy battle with cancer, House Speaker Jon Burns said Sunday.
“For over a decade, Chairlady Ballinger served our state and her community with unwavering resilience and the utmost dedication,” Burns said in a post on social media. “Her commitment to advocating on behalf of the most vulnerable among us, including children and survivors of domestic violence, has certainly left an indelible mark on countless lives across the entire state of Georgia.”
Burns asked for prayers for Ballinger’s husband, state court Judge Allen Morris, and her son, Henry.
Ballinger chaired the House Judiciary Juvenile Committee, according to her biography on the House of Representatives website. Her other committees included the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety, Budget & Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Judiciary Non-Civil, Reapportionment and Redistricting and Transportation committees, according to the website.
“Rep. Ballinger was a passionate leader who was respected across the political aisle as an advocate for justice in our state,” Kemp said in a social media post. “As chair of the House Judiciary Juvenile Justice Committee and through her service on several state boards and commissions dealing with juvenile justice and domestic violence, her service made a considerable impact on the lives of countless Georgians.”
