Georgia Republican congressmen call for Biden to drop out

(The Center Square) – Republicans in Georgia are united in wanting President Joe Biden out of the 2024 presidential election.

Even most Democratic congressmen in the state have gone quiet in their support for the 81-year-old.

Instead of alleviating concerns over his age and cognitive abilities as it was intended, Biden’s first press conference on Thursday since his June 27 debate performance gave opponents even more reason to call for him to drop out.

Republicans were quick to point that out, both during and after the culmination of the 75th anniversary summit of NATO.

“Joe Biden’s ‘big boy’ press conference proved that he’s unfit to be our Commander-in-Chief,” wrote Rep. Andrew Clyde on social media.

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green agreed.

“It’s debate night all over again. Big boy press conferences that started with a teleprompter speech? Now Biden is getting spoon fed one question at a time by the controlled press and he can’t even talk,” she said. “ALL of the Democrats have known how bad off Joe Biden is the whole time. They LIED to the country and the entire world.”

Green also pointed to concerns about how Biden’s mental state affects the national security of the nation.

“Biden says he’s prepared to talk to anybody including Putin, but he can barely talk coherently at all,” she said.

Rep. Rich McCormick echoed this sentiment.

“President Biden’s cognitive decline is obvious to the world,” he said on social media. “This has become a national security concern.”

He also pointed out that Republicans have long been concerned about Biden’s mental state, but that it was largely ignored by the media.

“For four years, the mainstream media fabricated accusations about President Trump, and then the following three years covered up facts about President Biden,” McCormick said. “These are the actions of propagandists, not journalists.”

Other Republican leaders from the state responded to the situation with humor.

U.S. Rep. Mike Collins posted a meme following the press conference, which said “It’s so Joever.”

While some Democrats are calling for Biden to drop out of the race, almost all Georgia Democratic congressmen have remained silent.

An exception is Rep. Nikema Williams.

“‘Regulate Guns, Not Girls!’ Let’s go Joe! #BidenHarris2024,” she said on social media, also after the press conference.

Yet, other Democrats are turning on Biden, which Rep. Austin Scott pointed out.

“After President Biden’s comments at NATO, leading House Democrats in the defense community publicly called for him not to seek another term,” he said. “I believe the President’s current diminished mental capacity is a national security risk.”
