Georgians could get tax rebates before summer

(The Center Square) – Georgians could get another tax rebate just in time for the summer vacation season.

The Senate passed House Bill 1000 on Monday with bipartisan support, and it goes to the governor for his signature.

Single Georgians who filed in tax years 2024 and 2025 will receive up to $250, and married Georgians will receive up to $500. Residents who filed as head of household will get up to $375.

Gov. Brian Kemp introduced the tax rebates in his State of the State address. The $1.1 billion in funding will come from state surplus and was included in the fiscal year 2026 midyear budget.

No official timeline has been set, but the bill’s fiscal note hints that the rebates could come in the next few weeks.

“Based on the last rebate distribution, DOR (Department of Revenue) data suggests significant portion of the rebates are expected to be made primarily by June 2026, though the timing would depend on the final date of enactment and DOR’s ability to validate and process the payments after returns are filed,” the fiscal note said.

Kemp thanked the General Assembly for supporting the rebates.

“With final passage of HB1000 today, Georgians will receive another, one-time income tax rebate this year of up to $500 for joint filers!” Kemp said on social media.
