Georgia’s unemployment rate dips slightly

(The Center Square) – Georgia’s July unemployment rate was down slightly and the number of jobs also decreased, according to information released by the Department of Labor on Thursday.

The 3.4% rate is one-tenth less than the previous month. The number is the lowest rate since April 2024, said Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes.

“More Georgians are stepping into the workforce and securing jobs – a trend that’s held strong for two consecutive months,” Holmes said. “Meanwhile, the number of unemployed has steadily declined for 11 straight months, resulting in an improved unemployment rate of 3.4% in July 2025, the lowest rate since April 2024. These gains reflect the power of putting workers first and building strong partnerships across Georgia.”

The number of available jobs dropped by 500 but is up 26,900 in the past year, according to the department. The most significant declines from June to July were in the accommodation and food services industry, which experienced a loss of 4,500 and transportation, warehousing and utilities, which lost 1,400.

The health care and social assistance sector had the most gains with 2,800 jobs, followed by the durable goods manufacturing sector with 2,700 new positions, the department said.
