(The Center Square) – Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham’s bid for a fifth term in the U.S. Senate won’t include Paul Dans among the challengers in the June 9 primary.
Graham, more often than not a staunch ally of second-term Republican President Donald Trump, is expected to have a lighter challenge from Mark Lynch in the six-candidate field. Dans withdrew his name Friday, the last day he could do so, and endorsed Lynch.
Dans is known for his work pivotal to the nearly 1,000-page document known as Project 2025. It was work completed at the Heritage Foundation in Washington prior to the 2024 presidential race, often linked to Trump, and considered a conservative model for policy.
Dans is a former lawyer within the first Trump administration. Lynch gained success through his appliance business.
Graham has the president’s endorsement, though the two have clashed at times. His campaign said a $1.4 million first quarter has lifted the coffers to $11.6 million cash on hand.
The Democratic primary includes Annie Andrews, Brandon Brown, Catherine Fleming Bruce, Kyle Freeman and Christopher Giracello. None are considered a serious threat to the winner of the Republican primary.
