Former South Carolina Gov. and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley defeated former President Donald Trump in Sunday’s GOP primary in Washington D.C., her first win of the 2024 primary season.
After suffering big losses to Trump in her home state of South Carolina and other early primary states, Haley’s win Sunday in the nation’s capital perhaps could give her momentum heading into Super Tuesday, when voters in 14 states and the territory of American Somoa cast their ballots. A day earlier, on Saturday, Trump swept caucuses in Missouri and Idaho, and he also captured all 39 delegates at the Michigan GOP convention just days after winning Michigan’s primary.
Haley secured 19 Republican delegates in Washington D.C., bringing her total to date to 43. With 247 delegates, Trump holds a commanding lead heading into Super Tuesday, where he holds double digit leads in polling in most states.
