Haunted car wash opens Friday evening in Orland Park, Lombard and Peoria

(The Center Square) – Think of it as a drive-through haunted house.

Tommy’s Car Washes in Orland Park, Lombard and Peoria will wash the car and give everybody in the vehicle a good fright in their 3-day Tunnel of Terror car wash extravaganza. The events begin Friday evening.

Chris Kantzioris, manager of the Orland Park Tommy’s, came up with the idea two years ago and people loved it, he said. For the price of a $20 deluxe car wash and wax package, The Works comes with everybody in the car getting a fright at no extra charge.

“It’s pretty scary,” Kantzioris promised. He described it as “classic horror meets scary clowns.”

The car wash tunnel is completely dark. Inside, there are sound effects, lots of smoke, and demons and monsters. Last year the Orland Park location had about 500 cars a night go through.

Tommy’s Car Wash Systems is a 50-year-old Michigan-based car wash chain. Tommy’s corporate management loved the feedback that they received from Orland Park customers last year. So this year the Lombard and Peoria locations will have their versions of the Tunnel of Terror.

The car wash turns into the Tunnel of Terror after the sun goes down, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. for three nights only, Oct. 27, 28, and 29.

Kantzioris advises people to get there early.

“It’s a family-friendly event, but we want to scare you,” Kantzioris said.

Expect a lot of flashing lights, so the experience is not appropriate for people with epilepsy.

Kantzioris talked family members and friends into helping out with Tunnel of Terror. He promised some new spooky surprises for this year’s show.
