Hegseth Says U.S. Strikes in Iran Intensifying Despite Trump’s Claims of Success

(AURN News) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Monday that U.S. strikes inside Iran are intensifying as the military campaign enters what he described as its most aggressive phase yet.

“Today will be our most intense day of strikes inside Iran yet,” Hegseth said.

Hegseth’s remarks stood in contrast to comments from President Donald Trump a day earlier, when the president suggested the military objectives of the campaign had largely already been achieved.

Trump said Iran’s navy had been largely sunk and its missile capability reduced to about 10%, adding, “The big risk on that war has been over for three days.”

Hegseth said the campaign is still unfolding and that Trump would ultimately decide when the operation ends. He declined to comment on reports that Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, may have been wounded.

When pressed about civilian casualties — including reports of a strike on a school that allegedly killed 165 children — Hegseth did not give a direct answer about whether the U.S. was responsible.
