Honoring John Lewis: Five Years Since His Passing, His Legacy Endures

Five years ago today, we lost Congressman John Lewis — an icon of the civil rights movement and a moral compass in American politics.

From marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Bloody Sunday to serving more than three decades in Congress, Lewis dedicated his life to the fight for justice, voting rights and human dignity.

He called it getting into “good trouble,” and he never stopped pushing the nation to be better.

His legacy lives on in every ballot cast, every peaceful protest and every act of conscience.

As we face new battles over democracy and civil rights, we honor John Lewis not by mourning alone, but by continuing the work. He showed us the way — now it’s our turn to walk it.
