A political storm hit Capitol Hill as the House Oversight Committee issued 11 subpoenas tied to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, including to former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller, and six former attorneys general from both Democratic and Republican administrations.
At the center is a demand for the full, unredacted Epstein files from the Department of Justice by Aug. 19. Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., says the American people deserve the truth and is calling for depositions to begin as soon as Oct. 14 with former President Clinton.
Reps. Robert Garcia, D‑Calif., and Summer Lee, D‑Pa., pushed for the move after the Trump administration suddenly closed the case without explanation. The committee also subpoenaed former Attorneys General Merrick Garland, Bill Barr, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder and Alberto Gonzales.
Notably missing from the list is Alex Acosta, the former U.S. attorney who negotiated Epstein’s infamous 2008 sweetheart deal, allowing Epstein to avoid federal prosecution by pleading guilty to lesser state charges and serving just 13 months in a county jail with work release.
