Hyde-Smith retains Mississippi GOP nomination

(The Center Square) – U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith won her race in the Mississippi primary as the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate on Tuesday. She will face off in the Nov. 3 general election against Democrat Scott Colom, a district attorney in the state.

Hyde-Smith overcame a GOP challenge from Sarah Adlahka, a Mississippi physician. She rode on an endorsement from President Donald Trump last year.

“Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith is 100% MAGA, and doing a fantastic job representing the Incredible People of Mississippi!,” Trump wrote on social media.

Colom was nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi.

“Our current U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith isn’t working for us anymore, voting against Mississippi jobs and investments because it serves her donors’ agenda,” Collom wrote before Tuesday’s primary. “Scott will always put Mississippi first – and he’ll work with anyone, Republican or Democrat, to get things done for our state.”

Hyde-Smith was first elected to the Senate in 2018 after a special appointment to the seat by Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant in 2018. The 2026 midterm elections mark the second time Hyde-Smith is running for a full Senate term.

The Cook Political Report ranks Mississippi’s Senate race as “Solid Republican.”

Mississippi voters will head to the polls on Nov. 3 to elect a new Senate representative’s term.
